Motorsports director: IRL, Champ merger good for state, competition

The merger of the Indy Racing League and Champ Car World Series is good for the racing industry in Indiana and may lead to more - rather than less - competition in open wheel racing, according to Guy Faulkner, assistant professor of motorsports studies and director of ISU's motorsports initiative.

Bat Researcher Earns First Critter Catchers, Inc. Scholarship

Founded to humanely and safely relocate wayward wildlife, Critter Catchers, Inc., recently played a key role in helping ensure that the world's sole true flying mammals - bats - won't face any challenges in finding perfect bat-friendly dwellings in the great outdoors. The southeastern Michigan-based wildlife and bat removal firm, working in conjunction with the Indiana State University Center for North American Bat Research (the Bat Center) and the Organization for Bat Conservation, awarded the center's first-ever annual scholarship - a $1,000 prize to ISU biology major and Masters Degree candidate Laura Hohman.

Program details volunteer opportunities for older Americans

There's a wide world of opportunity for older Americans through the Peace Corps, which has no age limit for volunteers. A former Peace Corp volunteer turned recruiter will present a program March 7 describing what the Peace Corps is all about, what it does, and what it is like to live abroad.

Flight simulation agreement with Lufthansa

Indiana State University aviation technology majors will receive real-world flight simulation training, thanks to an agreement with the German-based Lufthansa Flight Training (LFT).

Pain researcher to speak at ISU

Theodore Cummins, assistant professor at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis and a researcher with Stark Neurosciences Research Institute, plans to speak on "Inherited Mutations Define the Critical Role of a Sodium Channel in Pain" at 4 p.m. March 4 in Science Building 12. Refreshments will be served at 3:30 p.m.
