Indiana State University’s Dr. David E. Fleming has been named to the inaugural Hall of Fame class of the National Conference in Sales Management (NCSM), recognizing a distinguished career marked by leadership, scholarship, and innovation in the field of sales education.
The honor was announced during the NCSM 40th Anniversary Conference, held March 25–27, 2026, in Norfolk, Virginia. The Hall of Fame Legacy Award celebrates individuals who have made a lasting and meaningful impact on the sales and sales management discipline through sustained service and scholarly contributions.
Dr. Fleming, professor of marketing and director of Indiana State University’s Sales & Negotiation Center at the Scott College of Business, was selected for what peers described as a rare combination of consistency, integrity, and innovation. With more than 15 years of involvement with NCSM, he has served in numerous leadership roles, including executive director (2022–2023), program chair (2019–2022), proceedings editor (2017–2019), special sessions chair (2015–2017), and at-large board member (2014–2015).
In addition to his leadership within NCSM, Dr. Fleming has built a strong record of scholarly achievement. He has authored more than 25 peer-reviewed journal articles in leading publications such as the Journal of Personal Selling & Sales Management and the Journal of Business-to-Business Marketing. His research – particularly in areas related to technology’s impact on business-to-business relationships and self-directed learning – has helped shape both academic understanding and professional practice.
At Indiana State, Dr. Fleming has elevated the Sales & Negotiation Center into a nationally recognized program. Under his direction, the center has maintained prestigious USCA accreditation and achieved a 98 percent pre-graduation placement rate for students. He has also introduced innovative learning opportunities, including AI-based sales competitions and a university-wide elevator pitch competition that engages students across disciplines.
“Dr. Fleming’s induction into the National Conference in Sales Management Hall of Fame is a testament to the kind of leadership and innovation that define Indiana State University” said Dr. Susan Powers, interim dean at the Indiana State University Scott College of Business. “His work not only elevates the national profile of our Sales & Negotiation Center but also ensures our students are exceptionally prepared to lead in a rapidly evolving, technology-driven marketplace.”
Founded in 1985, the National Conference in Sales Management is the premier academic organization for sales educators and researchers. The Hall of Fame, established in 2026, recognizes extraordinary contributions to the discipline over the past 40 years. New members will be inducted every five years as part of future milestone celebrations.
Dr. Fleming’s recognition reflects Indiana State University’s continued commitment to a culture of care and career-connectedness – preparing students with the skills, experiences, and industry connections needed to succeed in today’s workforce.
