Indiana State University has announced the appointment of Steven Susens as its new Chief Public Relations Officer.
President Mike Godard welcomed Susens to campus, saying, “Steve brings a wealth of international communications experience and a proven record of strategic leadership. We’re excited to have him join the team and help elevate the visibility and impact of Indiana State’s mission.”
Before joining Indiana State, Susens built an accomplished career in international communications and development. He served as Senior External Relations and Communications Advisor for USAID’s Young Africa Leaders Initiative and previously as Senior Development Outreach and Communications Officer for USAID/Pakistan, with two earlier assignments in Afghanistan. Susens also worked with organizations such as Internews, TetraTech ARD, and International Business & Technical Consultants in Yemen, and led communications for private sector clients including the U.S. Mint, Verizon, and Medtronic.
“Having grown up in Fort Wayne, I am thrilled to have this wonderful opportunity to come back home to Indiana and join the Sycamore family,” said Susens. “Indiana State has a proud legacy of community engagement and student success, and I’m honored to help tell that story.”
Susens, whose office is housed in the Office of the President, began his role on Monday, November 3, 2025.
