Indiana State University has announced the 2025 recipients for the Philanthropy Awards, including the March On! Award, the John P. Newton Spirit of Indiana State University Award, and the Student Philanthropy Award. To celebrate their impact, the honorees will be recognized at the fifth annual President’s Dinner this fall.
Since its inaugural year in 2015, the March On! Award is the University’s most prestigious recognition to honor transformational philanthropy. This year, the award will be presented to Mike and Mary Blackwell, Dr. Peggy Sankey (posthumous), Tim Wiseman, and York Automotive.
“Philanthropy is one of the strongest expressions of Sycamore pride. The individuals and organizations we recognize this year have shown what it truly means to give back with purpose,” said President Mike Godard. “Their generosity not only strengthens Indiana State University today but also ensures that future generations of Sycamores have the opportunity to learn, lead, and thrive.”
Since 2010, the John P. Newton Spirit of Indiana State University Award has been given to alumni who exemplify an enduring commitment to their alma mater and embody the true Sycamore Spirit. This year, Lindsey Montgomery will receive the award.
Lindsey Montgomery, Jr., '86 built his career at the Pentagon Federal Credit Union as an internal auditor for the United States government and, as a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity at Indiana State, has remained dedicated to strengthening the fraternity experience and uplifting the campus community through joyful giving, including his key role in fundraising for the National Pan-Hellenic Council Plaza. A steadfast Sycamore, Montgomery has made a lasting impact on the lives of countless Sycamores.
“The heart of Indiana State beats through those who believe in our mission and invest in our future. Our 2025 Philanthropy Award recipients exemplify that spirit of generosity,” said Andrea Angel, Vice President of University Advancement and CEO of the Indiana State University Foundation. “These individuals truly transform the student experience by creating a ripple effect of opportunity across our campus and community.”
The Student Philanthropy Award is awarded annually to a student organization at Indiana State that exemplifies a spirit of philanthropy and demonstrates ‘Sycamores Supporting Sycamores.’ This year, the award will be presented to the Lemon Club.
Lemon Club is a student-led partner of Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF), whose mission is to raise awareness and funds for childhood cancer research. Each year, the club organizes multiple fundraisers in the form of lemonade stands, a campus picnic, and various student engagement events to inspire joyful giving and rally the campus community around a meaningful cause.
“The Student Philanthropy Organization (SPO) is thrilled to honor the Lemon Club for their incredible work across campus and beyond this year,” said President of SPO Lillyan Dickerson. “Their dedication to helping others is an inspiring example of what it means to lead with heart. Their passion for giving back and uniting students around meaningful causes shows that philanthropy at Indiana State goes beyond giving—it’s about creating lasting change that makes a real difference.”
Indiana State University is honored and excited to recognize the vision and generosity of these incredible recipients. Their dedication to giving back helps shape the future of our students and strengthens our entire community.
