On Thursday, August 21, alumni and friends of the University gathered for the 31st annual President’s Scholars Golf Outing. Together, this event raised $115,800 to support the continuation of the University’s most prestigious scholarship. The outing was presented by Ratio and hosted at the Brickyard Crossing Golf Course in Indianapolis.

“Together, we are shaping the future of Indiana State University by supporting exceptional student leaders through the President’s Scholarship,” said Indiana State University President Mike Godard. “Because of this program, more than 500 graduates have excelled in their studies, launched successful careers, and lead with purpose in their chosen fields. This annual outing strengthens our tradition of excellence and paves the way for future Sycamore success.”

The President’s Scholarship is given to incoming freshmen or transfer students in the undergraduate program who have demonstrated high scholastic achievement and leadership. The scholarship offers each award recipient full tuition and premium housing at Indiana State University. President’s Scholars become members of the Honors College, which fosters a supportive and challenging environment for outstanding students through interdisciplinary learning, faculty mentorship, and opportunities in leadership, service, research, and study abroad.

“The generosity of the golf outing’s supporters opens so many doors for our students. Beyond financial support, the scholarship program equips our students with the connections and experiences they need to pursue their professional dreams and to shape a brighter future for their communities.” said Greg Bierly, Dean of the Honors College.

This year, seven scholars joined the outing and gained leadership and networking skills with trailblazing leaders from all over the country. Piper Watkins, one of the participating scholars in this year’s outing, is a senior majoring in public relations and digital communication and media with a minor in sports communication. Watkins has volunteered for three consecutive President’s Scholar Golf Outings and participates in a networking station each year.

“Being a first-generation college student, the financial and emotional support this scholarship provides is something I carry with me every single day. Donor support continues to make my education possible, and, more importantly, it reminds me that there are people out there who believe in students like me,” said Watkins.

“This year’s golf outing was once again a remarkable success made possible by the incredible generosity of sponsors, donors, alumni, and students,” said Andrea Angel, Vice President of University Advancement and CEO of the Indiana State University Foundation. “Their loyal support strengthens our Presidential Scholars program and gives students meaningful opportunities to engage with leaders from many fields. We are truly grateful for their commitment and are already looking forward to next year’s outing.”
