There is an added attraction for this year's "Haute Fashion: The Kaleidoscope," an annual fashion show presented by Indiana State University's textiles, apparel and merchandising students.
Helen Castillo, who has twice competed on the Lifetime television show "Project Runway", will serve as master of ceremonies for the show and offer one of her designs as a raffle prize for the event, which serves as a fundraiser for student scholarships.
Students enrolled in an event planning course design and coordinate the event which offers students an opportunity to showcase their creative work in any of seven categories:
• Chic in the city• Red Carpet• Avant Garde• Tiny Trend Setters• Street Style• Upcycle• The Collection
Prior to the Dec. 4 show in the University Hall Theater, a panel of judges will evaluate the students' collections on their construction, cohesiveness, creativity, and marketability. During the grand finale on Friday evening, the winners will be announced. A reception is scheduled for 6 p.m. with the show set for 7 p.m.
Castillo competed during season 12 of "Project Runway" and on the show's "All-Stars" episode. She has worked with Gallery NYC and Reebok as a design assistant/sample room intern at the Vera Wang (Bridal) House. In 2011, she interned for Vivienne Westwood in London. Castillo was the 2013 "Vogue Young Talents'" design winner, and in 2014 she was commissioned to make Mary Lambert's red-carpet gown for the Grammys. She has a bachelor's degree in special occasion design from the Fashion Institute of Technology.
