Nursing programs earn renewed accreditation

Indiana State University\'s bachelor\'s and master\'s degree nursing programs have earned continuing accreditation.

In granting renewed accreditation of the programs for the maximum eight-year period, the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing listed as particular areas of strength the bachelor\'s degree program\'s commitment to interprofessional education and scholarship support for faculty to complete doctoral degrees.

\"I am so proud of the hard work and perseverance of the nursing faculty and staff. They strive every day to promote the success of our students and our programs. This achievement signifies our continued commitment to our current and future students and to the nursing profession,\" said Lea Hall, executive director of nursing.

\"Accreditation of nursing programs is more important than ever, given the increased need for primary health care practitioners that are both expert clinicians and patient advocates,\" said Jack Turman Jr. dean of the College of Nursing, Health, and Human Services.

Continued accreditation of the bachelor\'s degree program follows a campus visit by a team of evaluators last spring and is valid until 2022. Continued accreditation of the master\'s degree program is based on a recent follow-up to a 2011 campus visit and is valid until fall 2019. The bachelor\'s degree program is also accredited by the Indiana State Board of Nursing. A doctor of nursing practice program launched in 2010 and earned accreditation from the commission in 2013.
