Todd Whitaker will focus on themes from his book, "What Great Teachers Do Differently: 14 Things That Matter Most" during a workshop at Indiana State University.
Whitaker, a professor of educational leadership, administration and foundations at ISU, has written 21 educational books, including "Dealing with Difficult Teachers" and "What Great Principals Do Differently." Many of his books have been translated to other languages. Whitaker has presented at workshops in all 50 states, as well as internationally in locations such as Sweden, Canada and New Zealand.
The workshop is designed for teachers and principals around the state who want to become better at what they do and earn credit toward license renewal.
During the three-day workshop, educators in an audience-participatory setting will learn what the most effective teachers do differently than their colleagues.
The principals and teachers will have the opportunity to "focus on their own practices, interact with other outstanding professionals and leave with specific things they can implement in their own classrooms and schools," said Whitaker, ISU professor of educational leadership, administration and foundations.
Some of the topics to be covered at the workshop are:
-How to set high expectations and get students to deliver
-What great teachers do when students misbehave
-How great teachers filter information differently than others
-Ways that great teachers approach high stakes testing
The workshop will be held in University Hall from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. June 8-10. The cost is $225 per person or $200 per person if three or more people are coming from the same school or district. For $375, participants can receive three graduate credits for license renewal.
The registration deadline is June 1.
University Hall is located at Eighth and Chestnut streets, and parking is available.
