Indiana State University proudly announces the speakers for its undergraduate winter commencement ceremony on Saturday, December 14, 2024. Highlighting this year’s ceremony are Hannah Buescher, a dedicated nursing student and active campus leader, and Eric Garrett, an accomplished alumnus and founder of The Garrett Companies.
Student Speaker: Hannah Buescher
Hannah Buescher, a nursing major from Charleston, Illinois, represents the spirit of Indiana State’s students. A member of the Honors College, Buescher has excelled academically while actively contributing to campus life through the Student Nurses Association and women’s club volleyball.
Buescher has gained hands-on experience in the Intensive Care Unit at Union Hospital. After graduation, she will join Riley Hospital for Children, working in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Step-Down Unit. She credits her achievements to the unwavering support of her family, friends, and the Indiana State community.
Alumni Speaker: Eric Garrett
Eric Garrett, founder and CEO of The Garrett Companies, is a celebrated Indiana State University alumnus and an industry leader in multifamily real estate development. Under his direction, The Garrett Companies has grown into a nationally recognized enterprise with more than 50 projects completed across 17 states, delivering over 17,000 residential units valued at $4.5 billion.
Known for its culture of excellence and innovation, The Garrett Companies has earned national acclaim, including recognition from Fortune and Inc. as a top workplace. A proud Sycamore, Garrett credits his time at Indiana State as foundational to his success. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he is deeply committed to philanthropy, giving back through The Garrett Family Foundation and serving on the National Multi Housing Council’s Board of Directors. His leadership and contributions reflect his dedication to fostering excellence and community engagement.
