The Bro-Fowler Duo, Paul Bro and Kurt Fowler and special guest Jimmy Finnie (percussion) will perform as part of the ISU Faculty Artist Series at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 24, in the Boyce Recital Hall of the Landini Center for Performing and Fine Arts.
The recital will feature works by Wolfram Wagner, Mark Engebretson, Frank Felice, Augusta Read Thomas and Erberk Eryilmaz.
During the past 20 years, the Bro-Fowler Duo has performed throughout the United States, including performances in Chicago, Cincinnati, Columbia, S.C., Flagstaff, Kansas City, Louisville, Minneapolis, Tucson and New York City as well as an extended tour of Vietnam.
Formed in 1998 for performances of Edison Denisov's "Sonate for alto Saxophone and Cello," saxophonist Paul Bro and cellist Kurt Fowler have sought to expand the repertoire for this unusual combination of instruments by commissioning new works. Since the fall of 2000, they have been the recipients of six Indiana State Arts Endowment Grants.
Bro has performed throughout the United States and Canada, as well as in Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. As a soloist, Bro has performed concertos with the U.S. Navy Band, the Royal Air Force Band of Belgium, the Tambov Symphony Orchestra in Russia and the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra.
Fowler has performed as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral musician throughout the United States, as well as in Europe, Russia, Vietnam and China. He has performed with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and the Syracuse Symphony and has served as principal cellist of the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra.
Jimmy Finnie has presented solo and chamber concerts,and clinics and master classes throughout the United States, Canada, China, Austria, Thailand and Hungary. He performs regularly with Mojah Tuba (brass, percussion, and dance fusion) Cramped Spaces Ensemble (piano and percussion quartet), Caribbean Consort Steel Band, and the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra. Finnie is an artist clinician for the Zildjian Cymbal, and Innovative Percussion Mallet Companies.
