Indiana State University and Ivy Tech Community College - Wabash Valley have reached agreement on 21 new and revised transfer agreements involving courses in Ivy Tech's division of technology and Indiana State's College of Technology.
The agreements were reached during a meeting at Ivy Tech in which 25 technology faculty members from the two institutions discussed ways to ensure continuity between Ivy Tech's associate's degree programs and Indiana State's bachelor's degree programs.
While ISU and Ivy Tech have had transfer agreements for some time, the new agreements represent a different approach, said ISU President Lloyd W. Benjamin III.
"Instead of looking at course-by-course transfer we're looking at program-by- program transfer and being certain there is homogeneity for students between what they're ding in the first two years at Ivy Tech and what they would do in their second two years at Indiana State," Benjamin said.
"These agreements will streamline the transfer process so that students know that college credit earned at Ivy Tech will count toward a bachelor's degree at ISU," said C. Jack Maynard, Indiana State's provost and vice president for academic affairs. "By involving faculty from the two institutions in face-to-face discussions, we will ensure a smooth transfer and address any potential glitches along the way."
Jeff Pittman, chancellor of Ivy Tech Community College - Wabash Valley, expects the transfer agreements involving technology courses will be followed by similar agreements in other areas of study.
"We think we need to be meeting with all the faculty at Indiana State, the different colleges, we think we've got a great model for us as we move forward with more transfer agreements," Pittman said. Expanding transfer agreements to other subject areas is important given Ivy Tech's new mission as a statewide community college, Pittman noted.
Programs involved at Ivy Tech - Wabash Valley include: automotive services, aviation technology, design technology, electronics and computer technology, human resources specialty of business administration, and manufacturing and industrial technology.
Indiana State University's College of Technology's programs include: aerospace technology, electronics and computer technology, industrial education, and industrial and mechanical technology.
