A University of California at Berkeley researcher, Tyrone Hayes, who has found links between a common pesticide used on farms and amphibian deformities is scheduled to speak at Indiana State University on Jan. 8.

National association president to speak in Terre Haute

An Indiana State University graduate and current president of the National Association of Elementary School Principals is scheduled to speak in Terre Haute on Jan. 7. Mary Kay Sommers, an Indiana State University graduate, will speak on "Reflections of School Leadership: What Will the Principal of Tomorrow Need'" beginning at 4:30 p.m. in the Clabber Girl second floor meeting room.

Students present interior design plans for historic house

Colleen Chestnut and Jim Silver bought the former home of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity on South Sixth Street and have been working to renovate it. Upon the suggestion of Tommy Kleckner, director of the western office of Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana, Chestnut and Silver decided to open their house to ISU interior design students as part of their sophomore-level materials and finishes class.

Young nursing student battling ovarian cancer inspires others

Jessica Coats had just completed her sophomore year in the nursing program at ISU when she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in July 2007. The 23-year-old has been determined to carry on with her studies, and in the process, has inspired others.
