Indiana State University is proud to serve as the inaugural academic partner for a groundbreaking new Workplace Injury Prevention Certificate Program, launched in collaboration with ATI Worksite Solutions—a division of ATI Physical Therapy—and the Institute for Musculoskeletal Advancement (iMSKA).

Debuting this academic year through Indiana State’s Master of Athletic Training (MSAT) Program, the certificate equips future healthcare professionals with cutting-edge strategies in proactive musculoskeletal (MSK) care. This initiative marks a major advancement in how academic training can directly support real-world needs in occupational health and safety.

“This certificate not only supports our students’ career growth,” said Tim Demchak, PhD, ATC, GTS, Program Director of Indiana State’s MSAT program, “but also addresses a growing national need for injury-prevention professionals who can make an immediate impact across industries.”

The curriculum focuses on identifying biomechanical, ergonomic, and behavioral risk factors that contribute to MSK disorders (MSDs), while also training students to work with employers to implement industry-aligned safety practices. By embedding this program into its MSAT curriculum, Indiana State University is preparing its graduates to become leaders in injury prevention and workplace wellness.

The program is powered by the expertise of ATI Worksite Solutions, a national leader in workplace injury prevention, and iMSKA, ATI’s research institute founded in 2024 to promote evidence-based MSK care. This partnership ensures that students at Indiana State gain both academic and applied knowledge to meet today’s workforce health challenges.

“MSK disorders remain one of the leading causes of lost workdays and long-term disability in the U.S. workforce,” said Fran Kosinski, Senior Vice President of Health Services at ATI. “By educating future clinicians in preventative care, we’re investing in a healthier, more sustainable workforce.”

Graduates of Indiana State’s program will be well-positioned for careers in occupational health, corporate wellness, and injury prevention. With plans to expand this certificate to additional institutions, Indiana State University proudly sets the standard as the first academic home of this innovative program.
