Indiana State University police investigate shooting

Indiana State University Police say a shooting on the university campus Saturday evening is believed to have been an isolated incident.

A male student reported that he was shot while walking near the Lincoln Quad residence hall shortly before 6:30 p.m. Police describe the victim as conscious and alert and indicated his injuries do not appear life threatening. The student was taken to a Terre Haute hospital for treatment.

The victim was able to provide only a general description of two men who may have been responsible. Investigators believe the person or responsible have left the area. However, there is a heavy police presence on the Indiana State campus.

The incident remains under investigation, but university police Chief Joe Newport said there is not believed to be a continuing threat to the general campus community.
