Indiana State University\'s Eye on Diversity Film Series presents \"DREAM: An American Story\" at 7 p.m. Oct. 15 in Hulman Memorial Student Union.
The documentary tells the story of Juan Gomez, who speaks flawless English, knows the pledge of allegiance and roots for the Green Bay Packers. Academically gifted, he firmly believes in the philosophy of the American Dream; that in this country everyone has the opportunity to create a better future via hard work, discipline and ability, regardless of social class, religious belief, political affiliation, race or ethnicity.
Facing separation from his parents, and caught in the midst of a dysfunctional immigration system and a paralyzed Congress, Gomez, a dedicated and hardworking undocumented immigrant, struggles to remain in the United States, the only country he has ever known.
Filmmaker Aldo Bello spent four years filming Gomez and \"DREAM\" has garnered several awards, including two regional Emmy awards, the Marcom Platinum Award, a Summit Emerging media Leader Award and a Communicator Award of Distinction for the accompanying social media website.
Bello will lead a discussion session following the film. Eye on Diversity events at Indiana State are free and open to the public.
A Chilean immigrant to the United States, Bello is co-owner of Mind & Media, a strategic communications and media company in Alexandria, Va. In 2012, he received the Americans for Immigrant Justice Humanitarian Award.
