Celebrate the end of Indiana State University\'s Community Semester Series with alumnus and federal magistrate Craig McKee at 7 p.m. April 23 in the Community Conference Center of Federal Hall.

McKee, who followed his parents and grandfather to Indiana State, holds a bachelor\'s degree in speech communication and journalism from Indiana State and a law degree from Indiana University. He has practiced law since 1985 and is a part-time federal magistrate judge for the court\'s Terre Haute division. He has been active in a number of civic organizations and on various non-profit boards, including the ISU Foundation, and has been an Indiana Historical Society board member since 2010. He was the first person from outside greater Washington, D.C. to serve as president of the Washington National Cathedral Association and is a serving officer in the Most Venerable Order of St. John, a British order of chivalry. McKee was honored by his alma mater with a Distinguished Alumni Award in 2013.

His presentation will be a sort of homecoming - the Community Conference Center used to be his courtroom before the Federal Court relocated in 2009.

McKee will address ways that individuals, especially those well-educated, may resist a loss of idealism in modern times--through renewed and cross-generational commitment to public service, by recommitting ourselves to civility in public discourse and interaction, and by affirming a commitment to lifelong learning as we adapt to a changing world.

During the evening, one lucky Indiana State student with the most consistent attendance at Community Semester events will win a $100 Barnes & Noble gift certificate. John Murray, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, will offer concluding remarks, including an announcement of next year\'s theme.

Admission to the event is free. For more information about ISU\'s College of Arts and Sciences Community Semester as well as a list of events and their descriptions, go to www.indstate.edu/communitysemester  .
