TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Seventeen Indiana State University music faculty members will perform as part of the Indiana State University Faculty Artist Series at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 28 in the University Hall auditorium.
The concert will feature vocal and instrumental pieces such as Eugene Bozza's "Fantasie Italienne," "Un Dia de Noviembre" by Leo Brouwer, Jose Bergmans' "La Femme a Barbe," and "Too Many Times" by Nancy Hill Cobb Lippens, who serves as the chairperson of the Indiana State music department.
"We invite the community to be able to hear this rich variety of performances by our outstanding music faculty at ISU," Cobb Lippens said. "It is great chance for area high school students who are interested in coming to the ISU Music Department for study to hear the teachers with whom they would be studying."
Performers represent the areas of study offered at Indiana State - percussion, piano, vocal, woodwinds and brass.
Paul Bro, Jimmy Finnie, Brent McPike, Martha Krasnican, Beverly Simms, Colleen Davis, Peggy Balensuela and Irina Albig are among the faculty members performing. Indiana State's Faculty Wind Quintet, comprised of Joyce Wilson, Sara Burk Dye, Crystal Barrett, Chad Roseland and Brian Kilp, will perform Alvin Etler's "Quintet II for Woodwind Instruments." The Faculty Brass Ensemble -- which includes Randy Mitchell, Glen Dimick, Rob Waugh, Alex Noppe and Kilp -- will perform Paquito D'Rivera'a "Four Pieces for Brass Quintet."
"I think it is important for students to see faculty perform," said Cobb Lippens. "It illustrates to students that not only can they teach, they have mastered their craft and perform professionally."
The concert is free and open to the public. A reception will follow in the atrium of University Hall. For more information, contact the ISU music department at 812-237-2771.
