Suranjana Bose to perform concert of Hindustani classical music

Suranjana Bose, accompanied by Guru Das on tabla, will perform a concert featuring Hindustani classical music on Saturday, Oct. 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall of Indiana State University Center for Performing and Fine Arts, located at Seventh and Chestnut streets.

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Suranjana Bose, accompanied by Guru Das on tabla, will perform a concert featuring Hindustani classical music on Saturday, Oct. 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall of Indiana State University Center for Performing and Fine Arts, located at Seventh and Chestnut streets.

Bose, one of the rising stars in the horizon of the Indian classical and semi classical music, is a worthy representative of the country's rich musical heritage to the outside world. Bose is proficient in Thumri, Dadra, Bhajan and Bengali songs. A talented singer of the younger generation, her immaculate style and flawless presentation along with her suave disposition and remarkable communication skills help in establishing a pleasant rapport with listeners.

She is a senior disciple of the doyen of thumri, Girija Devi of Benaras Gharana. Her early training was with Pandit Prasun Banerjee and Meera Banerjee of Patiala Gharana.

Bose's performance, featuring compositions such as Kheyal and Thumri, is being sponsored by the India Association of Terre Haute, ISU India Awareness Program and the ISU Music Department.
