The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) has reaffirmed its accreditation of Indiana State University.
ISU will have accreditation for 10 years with no interim reporting or monitoring required. ISU received formal notification of the action on Friday.
"Indiana State University takes pride in providing students with high quality education, and this reaffirmation assures our students and families that this is exactly what they are receiving," said President Deborah J. Curtis. "This validates the quality of the work being done in every aspect of our institution to fulfill our vital mission. It is gratifying to know the HLC has recognized our efforts."
The U.S. Department of Education recognizes HLC as one of six regional accreditors of post-secondary education institutions in the United States. It accredits institutions in 19 states in the central part of the country using these criteria: Mission; Ethics; Teaching and Learning: Quality, Resources, and Support; Teaching and Learning: Evaluation and Improvement; and Resources, Planning, and Institutional Effectiveness.
"It is rather rare for a university to completely meet all of the criteria and sub-components so this truly is cause for celebration," said Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Mike Licari. "Things like this are never accidental or the result of good luck. They require hard work and leadership from a lot of people across campus. Thank you and congratulations to the entire ISU community."
The work on ISU's assurance argument - a written report detailing and documenting how ISU is meeting each HLC criterion - began in fall 2017 with one subcommittee made up of faculty and staff. Other subcommittees began work the following fall. The assurance argument was submitted in July of this year and the process culminated with a virtual visit from the HLC peer review team on September 14-15.
