Community School of the Arts to provide summer music classes for children and teens

Looking for music camps for the kids this summer? Look no further than Indiana State University\'s Community School of the Arts (CSA)!

The CSA provides the communities of the Wabash Valley and surrounding areas the opportunity to participate in non-credit classes in music, theater and visual art. The Community School of the Arts welcomes students of all ages, backgrounds and ability levels to experience professional and affordable instruction in the performing and visual arts.

Children\'s music classes include \"My First Piano Camp!\" for children ages 5 to 8 \"Music and Movement!\" for children ages 5 to 8, \"Piano Lab\" for children ages 9 to 12, \"Sing and Dance!\" for children 9 to 13, \"Music and Movement\" for children ages 7 to 12, \" Piano Camp\" for children ages 7 to 12, \"The Guitar Club\" for children ages 5 to 11, and \"Piano Camp\" for children ages 5 to 8.

 Teen music classes include \"Jazz Camp\" for ages 11 and up, \"College Music Prep: Introduction to Music Theory and Skills\" for ages 12 and up, \"Acoustic String Jam Camp\" for teens age 14 and older, \"Summer Choral Experience\" for middle school and high school students, and \"Rock Band 101\" for teens ages 12 to 17.

\"Summer Choral Experience\" camp includes classes in music theory, basic piano skills, leadership training, private and class voice and large ensemble singing. Final performance will be held on Friday, July 19 in ISU\'s Recital Hall at the Landini Center for the Performing and Fine Arts.

\"Rock Band 101\" is a music course for students who dream of being a rock star! This class explores performing in a rock band and covers various rock styles, how to arrange music for a band, and how to develop proper playing and performance techniques. Students will also learn a brief history of rock music through listening assignments and videos.

This year, the CSA is offering supervised lunch activities. Children enrolled in CSA classes can participate in the Creative Lunch hour from noon-1 p.m. daily where they can eat lunch while working on an art project such as drawing, painting and collage. Students must bring a brown-bag lunch. Fee for the Creative Lunch Hour is $5 per day.

Children can also participate in a yoga program in addition to the Creative Lunch Hour. Students will spend half an hour participating in yoga class with licensed children\'s yoga instructor, Melissa Grinslade. After yoga, children will eat their lunch with students from the Creative Lunch Hour. Students must bring a yoga mat and a brown-bag lunch. Cost is $10 per day.
