The Indiana Organization for Nurse Executives has awarded ISU master's degree nursing student Angela Powell one of eight statewide scholarships in recognition of leadership in nursing.

The Indiana Organization for Nurse Executives (IONE) has recognized an Indiana State University graduate student for her leadership in nursing.

During the organization\'s fall conference in French Lick Oct. 24-26, officials presented a $3,000 IONE scholarship to Angela Powell of Montezuma, one of only eight individuals around the state to receive such a scholarship.

Powell, who is pursuing a master\'s degree in nursing at Indiana State, is a project associate for the telehealth and innovative technologies department at Union Hospital\'s Richard G. Lugar Center for Rural Heath.

Roseanne Fairchild, assistant professor of advanced practice nursing, nominated Powell for the scholarship.

\"Angela exemplifies superior critical thinking and observational skills, has an excellent work ethic, and also demonstrates creative, innovative thinking in helping her work teams address challenges.\" Fairchild said.

Prior to joining the Lugar Center, Powell served in various clinical positions related to critical care nursing and has served in leadership roles as director of nursing and nursing care manager. She is a member of the American Telemedicine Association and a student member of IONE. She holds an associate degree in nursing from Indiana State and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Indiana Wesleyan University.
