Driver-training courses set for summer

Indiana State University's department of health, safety and environmental health sciences and the Office of Continuing Education will offer comprehensive driver education classes for high school students this summer. Students can chose one of two sessions to suit their individual schedule.

The first five-week session will meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. June 7 - July 7. A parent meeting will be held on May 23 at 2 p.m. in the Health and Human Services Building/Arena room B-94.

The second five-week session will meet Mondays through Wednesdays from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. July 12 - Aug. 11. A parent meeting will be held on June 27 at 2 p.m. in the Health and Human Services building/Arena room B-94.

Students will learn from classroom lectures and assessment and practice on a multiple-car course and on-street driving. June session: Students participating in the June session must be 15 years of age by the time class begins. Due to a change in state law that takes effect July 1, participants in the July session must be 15 years and 180 days.

At the parent orientation meeting the parent/student will choose a driving time in addition to the regular classroom instructional time. Order of sign-up for drive times will be on a first come/first served basis as determined by time and date of course registration.

The classes have been approved by the Indiana Department of Education.
