TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Tickets are now available for Indiana State University music department’s 17th annual Scholarship Concert at 3 p.m. Feb. 24 in Tilson Auditorium.
The concert, titled “The Three Trumpets,†will feature Chicago trumpet artist Rob Parton along with Indiana State music faculty members Robert Waugh and Michael Mann.
The Wind Orchestra will feature Parton in the dazzling “Arutunian Concerto for Trumpet†and all three performers in “The Sword and the Crown†by Edward Gregson. The Symphonic Band will perform the Vivaldi “Concerto for Two Trumpets†and a trumpet trio will perform "Brassmen's Holiday" by Armengo. The concert will conclude with two operatic favorites “Nessun Dorma†and “Il Pagliacci,†now in a special jazz updated arrangement.
Rob Parton is one of Chicago’s most active and versatile trumpet players. He is well known and highly regarded as a studio/theatre musician, performer-educator and band leader.
As a studio musician, Parton has played on hundreds of both local and national radio and television commercials and many local CD projects not only as lead trumpet but as contractor. Parton has performed with the Chicago Symphony, Milwaukee Symphony, Chicagoland Pops Orchestra, Doc Severinson, Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra Jr., Mel Torme, Beach Boys, Christopher Cross, Sheena Easton, Peabo Bryson, Celine Dion, Nick Carter, Yolanda Adams, Josh Groban, Enrique Eglasius, Natalie Cole and Maynard Ferguson to name only a few.
Parton is associate professor of Jazz Studies at the Chicago College of Performing Arts of Roosevelt University. His duties include teaching trumpet, directing the award winning CCPA Jazz Ensembles, teaching jazz pedagogy, jazz conducting, and music business.
Waugh is in his second year at Indiana State, where he conducts the ISU Jazz Ensemble in addition to teaching trumpet. He is assisted by Mann, a first-year professor specializing in both jazz and classical playing along with brass chamber music.
The concert is sponsored by the ISU music department, Conservatory of Music, Jupiter Band Instruments, WFIU Radio and the Terre Haute Tribune Star.
Admission is $5 for students and $10 for adults, with special patron tickets available for $30 that includes attendance at a reception following the program hosted by ISU President and Mrs. Lloyd Benjamin.
